Eighty-five Norton High School students traveled to the District 8 DECA Career Development 2020 Conference at the Cape Cod Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, MA in January. Accompanied by faculty members Heather Albritton, Rachel Pilotte, and Jennifer Skowronek, this is the first of three conferences members of the club can attend this academic year. Forty-one of these students placed in the Top 10 of their categories and twenty-six placed in the Top 7 and will be moving on to the State Career Development Conference.
Founded in 1946, DECA has impacted the lives of more than ten million students, educators, school administrators and business professionals. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
At the District Career Development Conference, students participate in competition and leadership activities, where they compete in either a series or team decision making event. This event consists of an unprepared role-play and a written exam, or a written project that will be 10-20 pages depending on the category. Members also have the opportunity to win medals and trophies and advance to States.
The next two conferences, the State Career Development Conference and International Career Development Conference, will take place at the Marriott Copley Hotel and Sheraton Boston Hotels in Boston, MA & Hynes Convention Center (February 27–29) and at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN (April 29–May 2).
