Dear Parents and Guardians:
This letter is a friendly reminder that all classrooms at Yelle Elementary are designated nut free and sesame seed free in order to keep the environment safe for those students who have food allergies. As a result, snacks that are enjoyed in the classroom must not contain any nuts or sesame seeds. This policy does not pertain to the cafeteria as Yelle Elementary has a table for those students with food allergies. If your child will be eating lunch at this table, please be aware that foods containing nuts or sesame seeds are not permitted.
In order to know if a product contains nuts or sesame seeds, you must read the ingredients on the food labels. If there are household members who will be preparing your child’s snack or lunch (such as an older sibling, grandparent, or child care personnel), please make sure to share this information.
Regarding classroom parties or birthday celebrations, if your child’s teacher has personally given permission to having one, it is required that a one-week notice be given to the teacher and myself if you plan to send any food items into school that will be shared among classmates. A list of ingredients must accompany all food items in order for me to assess for any potential allergens. I will notify you if there are any problems. This will help maintain a safe environment for those students with medical issues.
I appreciate your help and understanding in this important health and safety matter, and I encourage all parents and guardians to contact me with any concerns or questions.
Thank you.
