Superintendent’s Message

Earlier this week, students across Norton Public Schools watched a brief video introduction to our new Portrait of a Learner, also known as The Lancer Way.

The Lancer Way represents the skills, habits, and values we hope to foster in every student throughout their time in Norton Public Schools. It reflects not only academic growth, but also how students collaborate, solve problems, show empathy, communicate, and continue growing as learners and members of our community.

As part of this rollout, I will be visiting classrooms across the district over the coming weeks to talk with students about what the Lancer Way means to them. One of the most important parts of this work is ensuring that student voice is at the center of the process, and I am excited to hear their ideas, perspectives, and reflections.

We are also launching a district-wide Lancer Way Art Contest for students in grades PK–12. Students will be invited to create an original piece of artwork that represents what it means to be a Lancer. Selected artwork will help visually represent the Lancer Way across our schools and district communications moving forward.

Additional information about the contest, including timelines and submission details, will be shared by schools in the coming days.

This work is an important step in continuing to build a shared vision for learning and belonging across Norton Public Schools, and we are excited to partner with our students, staff, and families throughout the process.

Thank you for your continued support.

Our Work on Student Absenteeism

I am proud to share that Norton Public Schools has been recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for our work in reducing chronic absenteeism across the district. Norton was one of just 55 districts statewide recognized for decreasing chronic absenteeism by at least five percentage points over the past year.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our students, families, educators, and staff. Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to making school attendance a priority. We know that consistent attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success  and every day in school matters.

Over the past year, our schools have worked intentionally to strengthen communication with families, provide support for students, monitor attendance trends closely, and create welcoming school environments where students feel connected and engaged. This progress would not be possible without the strong relationships between home and school.

While we are proud of this recognition, we also know there is still more work to do. We remain committed to supporting every student and every family to ensure students are present, engaged, and ready to learn each day.

Middle School and High School Spring Concerts

Our school community has been filled with music and talent this week as both our middle school and high school musicians took the stage for their annual spring concerts.

The Norton Middle School Band & Chorus Spring Concert brought together students, families, and staff for a wonderful evening celebrating the hard work and dedication of our students. The performance showcased their talents and reflected months of preparation, teamwork, and passion for music. The celebration of music continued with the Norton High School Spring Music Concert which  featured performances by Concert Band, Select Choir, Rock Band, and Concert Chorus. Students delivered an impressive showcase of musical talent!

We are incredibly proud of all of our student performers and grateful to our music educators, families, and community members for supporting the arts in Norton Public Schools.

Massachusetts VFW High School Teacher of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that Mr. Eric Paulus, Norton High School Social Studies Teacher, has been named the Massachusetts VFW High School Teacher of the Year. Through its Teacher of the Year program, the VFW recognizes outstanding K–12 teachers who inspire national pride and citizenship in students with teachers evaluated on citizenship and community involvement, classroom innovation, use of resources and partnerships, and passion for teaching and student success.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Paulus as he moves on to be considered at the national level. We are grateful for his work in the classroom, district, and community!
