Superintendent's Message

Last night, the annual Budget Hearing took place at the School Committee meeting. Attendees received information about the budget process and what NPS would need to retain our current level of services for all students, along with a look at historical budget increases. Norton is in a difficult budget position this year- not just Norton Public Schools, but our community as a whole. Costs have increased overall and we do not have enough revenue coming in to be able to accommodate budget increases that our town departments need and deserve.

The Norton School Committee and our administrative team are committed to working closely with the Selectboard and the Finance Committee to think creatively to see if there are other potential contingencies that could help support a modest increase for all departments. We know that we are always more effective when we work together in the best interest of our community.

It is important for our Norton families to understand that despite any contingencies, we will still have a reduction in staff and programming for the upcoming year, as we are not able to fund a level service budget as a school community. This is not something that I am taking lightly as your Superintendent, but be assured that we will be making decisions that we believe are in the best interest of all Norton students.
